My name is Elizabeth Calixtro, I am the Community Liaison for the City of Independence and my job is to conduct outreach in order to improve communication and collaboration with the Independence Latino community who represent 35.3% of our population. Part my job is to empower the Latino community to make use of city and community services, to participate in local events, take on leadership roles, and to apply for city jobs. I am responsible for the creation and execution of special programs/initiatives and act as a liaison between the municipality, various community/business organizations, and the general public. I have in depth knowledge about services and programs offered by the municipality and local organizations. and have acquired an informed perspective on current community needs.
This position was created as a result of our City’s strategic goals, one of which is to improve communication and collaboration with the local Latino community. As such, we are supportive of programs and initiatives that advance this vision and that create bridges of communication and understanding across racial/ethnic lines, specifically with our Latino community.
If you are a community based organization that serves (or would like to better serve) the Latino community in Independence and are looking to build a partnership with the City of Independence please contact me or Shawn Irvine at irvine [dot] shawn [at] ci [dot] independence [dot] or [dot] us.
