Can’t get enough of those great stories from the Ghost Walk? This year the Hop Festival Commission worked with a local comic book publisher to create “Spirits of Independence: A ghost walk companion”.
“The Spirits of Independence: A Ghost Walk Companion,” is a 16-page color comic book featuring three fantastic stories based on the tales told during the City’s annual Ghost Walk Tours. Written by local comic book scribe, Benjamin J. Kreger and featuring the artistic talents of Dexter Wee (Cura Te Ipsum), Ben Hanson (Zombies Vs. Cheerleaders), Scott A. Story (Johnny Saturn), Ryan Alonzo, and Jeremy Khan.
“The Spirits of Independence: A Ghost Walk Companion,” is the first comic book adaptation of tales long told in the City of Independence and as the title refers it will serve as a companion piece to the always popular annual tradition that is Independence’s Ghost Walk Tours and will be available during the Hops & Heritage Festival September 27th – 29th.
In the comic Kreger speculates on the history behind three of Independence’s haunted downtown buildings. First examining the events leading up to the suicide of the girl now referred to as Lenora’s Ghost, then a change in mood with a quiet story about a little boy ghost and his red ball, and finishing with a look at the ghostly history of the most notable building in town, the Speakeasy. “The Spirits of Independence” is a fun new addition to Hops & Heritage Festival’s Ghost Walk Tours destined to be part of the annual tradition for years to come!
Appropriate for most ages, the comic can be purchased for $5 at City Hall and the Independence Heritage Museum. The Hop Fesival Commission hopes to publish additional stories in comic form in the coming years. The comic can also be purchased through Marilyn Morton marilyn [at] minetfiber [dot] com 503-837-0700.
