This one story residence is rectangular in plan and has a gable roof with exposed rafters, covered with composition shingles. Fire retardant shingles sheath the exterior. The windows are double hung wood sash with twelve over one lights. There is a shed roof front porch with wrought iron posts. The shutters, end wall chimney and front porch are all additions. There are also additions to the rear. The building faces east on Monmouth Street and is in good condition. This building was originally owned A.J. Reiss who operated a variety of businesses in Independence including an agricultural and implement store.
