This two story residence is T shaped in plan and has a hip roof. Asbestos shingles and shiplap on the rear ell, sheath the exterior. The windows are one over one double hung wood sash and fixed pane. There is a decorative frieze board with vertical boards on the rear ell. Alterations to the buildings include" the addition of aluminum storm doors and windows, the replacement of the front window and new siding. There is a house attached to the building on the west side. The building faces east on South Fourth Street and is in fair condition.

The building was occupied by Bill Byers in the 1920's. The Kosel's moved into the building in 1959. The Kosels owned a used furniture store and shoe repair in downtown Independence.
