This one and one half story residence is T shaped in plan and has an intersecting gable roof covered with composition shingles. Narrow shiplap siding with corner pilasters sheaths the exterior. A concrete block foundation supports the building. The windows are one over one double hung wood sash with a projecting cornice. There is a shed roof porch with square posts and a solid balustrade which is a later addition. The supports the building. The building faces east on South Third Street and is in excellent condition. There is a contributing one car garage associated with the residence. The building is covered with a gable roof and clad with shiplap siding. The panelled garage doors swing outward. The building was constructed by Charles Smiley for the Willard Craven family in 1918. Craven ran the Craven and Huff Hardware store on Main Street for many years. Willard Craven was the Mayor of Independence from 1908 to 1909.
