This one and one half story residence is rectangular in plan with additions and has a gable roof with composition shingles. Wide shiplap siding with cornerboards sheaths the exterior. A concrete foundation supports the building. The windows are one over one double hung wood sash with a projecting cornice. The gabled porch on the front elevation has been enclosed and the fenestration has been altered. The building faces east on North Walnut Street and is in excellent condition.

An early occupant of the building was the Sylvester family. Mr. Sylvester was a druggist and owned his own store in downtown Independence in the 1930's.
