The Independence and Monmouth public libraries will celebrate National Library week with a Food for Fines drive. This annual event allows local library users to help the Ella Curran Food Bank while reducing their library fines. To participate in the Food for Fines program, bring any of the following items to your library between April 14th and April 19th:
For each item donated, the library will reduce your outstanding fines by one dollar. All items must be commercially processed, factory sealed, dent and rust free, and bear a future expiration date. No ramen products can be accepted. Food will be accepted only for overdue fines. Food cannot be used to reduce fines by more than twenty dollars, or for other charges such as lost or damaged items or special fees.
Those who do not have overdue fines are also invited to donate food during Food for Fines. If you have questions about Food for Fines, contact the Independence Public Library at 503-838-1811 or the Monmouth Public Library at 503-838-1932.
