In 2011, a group of neighbors around Pioneer Park got together and decided to work together to make the park a more inviting place for the community. After a couple of park cleanup projects, the group started working with the City and a playground manufacturer to raise funds for a new playground.
Almost a year later, the group has raised almost $30,000, ordered the playground equipmentt and is actively planning a community installation day to build the new playground. Friday and Saturday August 17 and 18, volunteers are invited to come to the park to help remove blackberries, fill holes and prepare the site for the new playground. On Friday September 14th volunteers will gather again in the park for a supervised installation of the new playground equipment. Saturday September 15th volunteers will again be called upon to place the wood fiber safety surfacing which will allow the city to open the playground for public use.
For a better idea of how the community playground installation works, look at the John Pfaff Park page, which outlines a similar project that was completed there in 2007.
