In 2011, a group of community volunteers approached the city about creating an off-leash dog park. With the wholehearted blessing of the City Council, the group set to work identifying a location, developing a site layout and raising funds. After raising almost $8,000 and securing the Council's approval for a layout, construction began in June 2012. Public Works installed fence posts and ran water to the site. In addition to raising funds, dedicated volunteers have been steadily working to install the chain link fencing which will eventually surround the entire dog park.
The small dog area is totally enclosed now and work continues on the large dog area. Once the fencing is done the group will turn their attention to installing benches and completing general maintenance of the dog park. A volunteer's day is never done and we are grateful for all they have and will do!
