Independence has been designated a Playful City USA by the national recreation organization Kaboom! The community boasts four neighborhood parks scattered throughout town and an almost mile-long recreational greenway along the Willamette River. Athletics are an important part of our community's recreation demands, and local organizations offer a variety of opportunities for team sports and simple socializing.
Come take a look around and see why Independence is a great place to live, work and especially play.
The Independence region is home to some incredible artists and performers. The Independence amphitheater has a regular series of free concerts, movies and comedy shows during the summer, as well as festivals and other events. Western Oregon University in neighboring Monmouth is also a major player in the local arts scene.
Riverview Park is the largest park in Independence. Located downtown between C and B Street, the park is home to the Independence Amphitheater and a large playground. For mapping purposes, use 50 C Street to locate the park and provide driving directions.
