Independence is fortunate to have active citizens who are willing to donate their time in order to improve their community. City parks are a great place to organize a volunteer activity and have benefited greatly in the past from community efforts.
Many people have participated in park clean-up days including the city's annual SOLV (Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism day. Last year, over 175 people participated and we collected over 30 TONS of garbage and organic waste.
Removing invasive weeds and pruning existing shrubs and trees are activities that the whole family can get involved in. Other potential volunteer projects include developing a birding guide for the City's parks, creating an attractive map and brochure for the city's parks system, and helping out with the River's Edge Summer Series. If you have an interest, we can put you to work!
