Since 1902 Independence Days, (formerly known as Western Days), has been a hometown tradition for locals. It’s a 4th of July party like no other, a special event planned for the community, by the community. Join us at the Riverview Park in downtown Independence, July 3rd-5th, 2024.  Enjoy three full days of non-stop fun as our community comes together to celebrate the birth of our great nation.

Event goers will be welcomed with upbeat live entertainment, wholesome family activities, and YMCA kid’s zone that will be the talk of the car ride home. We also have a diverse selection of food trucks and downtown restaurants that have ALL your favorites. There’s a Grand Parade that stretches from Monmouth to Independence, a rubber ducky derby on the Willamette River, fireworks and SO MUCH MORE!

The July 4th Grand Parade

The parade begins at historic Western Oregon University in Monmouth and travels Monmouth/Independence Hwy 51 (aka Main St. in Monmouth and Monmouth St. in Independence) to end at Riverview Park in Independence.

Please note that side streets will close ahead of the parade and remained closed for approximately 2 – 3 hours as the parade passes by. Alternative east to west roads are Hoffman Rd. north of town, and Stapleton Rd. south of town. Due to the 3 hour length of the parade, caution should be taken to protect participants and pets from potentially high heat conditions, and from walking on scorching pavement.

These gate funds are also distributed to various school teams and charitable organizations throughout our community, as they perform tasks in support of this complex community event.

  • July 3rd: No Admission Fee, no wristbands required

  • July 4th: Admission is $5 per person ages 6 and up, wristbands required

  • July 5th: Admission is $5 per person ages 6 and up, wristbands required

In order to keep our event safe and fun for everyone, the following prohibitions will be in effect and enforced during all hours of operation.  All coolers, bags, strollers, backpacks, diaper bags and other storage items are subject to search for prohibited items at the admissions gates.  If such items are found, the owner has the option of either returning the item to their car/home or surrendering the item to the available collection boxes.  Collection boxes are turned over to the Independence Police Department at the end of each day.  Items will not be returned to the owner.

We welcome ADA Protected Service Animals.  Service Animals as Defined by Title II and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act means any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Emotional support animals, comfort animals, and therapy dogs are not service animals under Title II and Title III of the ADA. Other species of animals, whether wild or domestic, trained or untrained, are not considered service animals either. The work or tasks performed by a service animal must be directly related to the individual’s disability.  For more information regarding a service animal handler’s responsibility to control their animal in public settings, please visit https://adata.org/publication/service-animals-booklet
