The Independence Police Department is sharing a sample of the calls for service each month to inform and educate community members on the work we do.
August 2024
In August, officers engaged in 690 activities, including 16 Arrests (Adults and Juvenile), 18 check welfares, 18 domestic disturbances, 210 traffic stops, 9 emotional health calls, and 51 Suspicious Activity / Person / Vehicle calls.
– Independence PD assisted the Monmouth PD with the pursuit of a stolen vehicle. Officers terminated the pursuit due to the reckless driving of the stolen vehicle. The driver remains at large.
– Officers received a report of a hit-and-run in which a witness left information about the suspect on the victim’s vehicle. This investigation is still ongoing.
– Officers arrested two people who had state-wide felony warrants.
– Officers arrested multiple DUII drivers this month, including several who were involved in motor vehicle crashes.
– Officers stopped multiple people this month and issued citations for using their cell phones while driving, driving while suspended or without a license, driving uninsured, and failing to wear a seatbelt.
– Officers responded to a disturbance over a disputed fence line. One neighbor was moving pavers that were up against the property line, causing a verbal confrontation. The neighbor told 911 that it would get physical if officers did not show up. Officers responded and assisted with de-escalation to avoid any physical altercation.
– An officer received video evidence from a store owner that showed someone taking packages of beef jerky sticks and putting them in their pocket. The person was identified, located and arrested for the theft.
– Officers received a call that two males had lit fireworks inside a porta potty. After arriving on the scene, the officer only smelled smoke and saw some debris inside. There was no apparent damage and the two involved males were not located in the area.
– Officer received a complaint regarding a neighbor who had mounted a camera on their residence that was pointed at the complaint’s window. They were informed that mounting a security camera on their property was not illegal.
– Officers responded to an overdose call at Riverview Park which was upgraded to a CPR call while officers were en route. Arriving officers administered Narcan which briefly restarted the patient’s breathing. Medics arrived and took over, ultimately transporting a patient who was now conscious, alert and breathing.
