Have you been curious about what our officers have been up to all month? The Independence Police Department is sharing a sample of the calls for service each month to inform and educate community members on the work we do.

In January 2026, officers engaged in 865 activities, including 27 Arrests (Adults and Juveniles), 13 check welfares, 14 domestic disturbances, 5 hit-and-run crashes, 6 emotional health calls, and 74 Suspicious Activity / Person / Vehicle calls.

JANUARY 2026

  • Officers responded to a bar where two individuals had been asked to leave due toย disruptive behavior. When contacted by police, one subject provided false information and was later found to have an active warrant. Upon being booked into jail, the individual resisted deputies and kicked them. Charges included giving false information, assaulting a police officer, and theย outstanding warrant.
  • A domestic incident occurred when a person struck their ex-partner multiple times during child custody exchanges. Chargesย included felony assault IV (two counts), physical harassment (three counts), disorderly conduct, and reckless endangering. The suspect was taken to the Polk County Jail.
  • Officers contacted a male who initially gave false identification. He was later correctly identified and found to have a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. Officers also located a bag of suspected fentanyl. The individual was arrested forย giving false information and possession of a controlled substance.
  • Officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man being chased and then two men fighting downtown. The suspect approached a stranger, demanded his phone, and a physical altercation ensued. The suspect was chargedย with robbery, theft, harassment, and disorderly conduct.
  • A witness reported a vehicle crash into a parked car, and the driver appeared impaired. The driver provided a breath sample showing a .16% blood alcohol content. Charges included DUII, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and failure to perform duties of a driver in an accident.
  • Officers responded to a domestic incident involving a 15-year-old and their parents, where the teen was reportedly armed with a knife and was making threats. Both parents sustained minor injuries. The teen was taken into protective custody and referred for harassment, menacing, and unlawful use of a weapon.
