Have you been curious about what our officers have been up to all month? The Independence Police Department is sharing a sample of the calls for service each month to inform and educate community members on the work we do.
In February 2026, officers engaged in 807 activities. These included 35 arrests (adults and juveniles), 15 welfare checks, 9 domestic disturbances, 1 hit-and-run crash, 17 emotional health calls, and 62 suspicious activity/person/vehicle calls. The activities listed above represent just a portion of the calls officers respond to. Other incidents may include resident contact calls, tows, attempt to locates, assisting other agencies, crashes, and other service requests.
FEBRUARY 2026
- A driver reported following a vehicle that was swerving and moving well below the speed limit. Officers located the vehicle with the driver still inside and several beer bottles in the vehicle. The driver was found to have a felony-level suspended license related to a prior DUII. At the jail, the driver recorded a .21% blood alcohol content.
- Officers responded to reports of a suspicious person without shoes attempting to open apartment and vehicle doors. The individual was found sitting inside a truck that did not belong to him. When officers asked him to exit, he locked the doors. The vehicle owner came outside and unlocked the truck, and the suspect was taken into custody.
- Officers arrested a suspect on charges including robbery, assault, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm. A search warrant was served at a residence, and a firearm was seized as evidence.
- Officers responded to a domestic disturbance where witnesses had helped separate the individuals involved. The victim had facial injuries consistent with being punched and bitten. An Assault IV (domestic violence) arrest was made.
- Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity involving weapons and determined it stemmed from a dispute between two people. During the argument, one individual deployed a stun gun that struck a person attempting to intervene. The victim sustained facial injuries and skin irritation from the stun gun. The suspect was arrested on assault and weapons-related charges.
