The Independence Police Department is sharing a sample of the calls for service each month to inform and educate community members on the work we do.
SEPTEMBER 2024
In September, officers engaged in 906 activities, including 29 Arrests (Adults and Juvenile), 24 check welfares, 19 domestic disturbances, 4 hit-and-run crashes, 17 emotional health calls, and 57 Suspicious Activity / Person / Vehicle calls.
- A report was received about a person stealing beer from Space Age. Officers reviewed the store’s video footage and, with assistance from Monmouth PD, identified the suspect. The suspect admitted to being the individual in the video stealing the beer and was arrested for Theft in the Third Degree – Shoplifting.
- Officers received a report of a vehicle driving all over the road and unable to maintain its lane. A traffic stop was initiated, and standardized field sobriety tests were performed. The driver failed the tests and was taken into custody for DUII. He blew a .24% BAC.
- Officers responded to a call where a victim reported that a co-worker had shown him a gun in his waistband during an argument. The suspect denied the allegation, and allowed officers to pat him down, but refused consent to search his vehicle. Officers later noticed a Glock box on the front passenger seat of his car in plain view and a search warrant was obtained. The investigation led to the discovery of approximately 21 grams of methamphetamine, a large bag of 9mm bullets, and two spring-assisted knives. The suspect was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamines and Felon in Possession of a Weapon.
- Officers observed a man sitting on the sidewalk and recognized him as having an active warrant. He was arrested on warrants for Aggravated Identity Theft, Probation Violation, Tampering with Drug Records, and Second-Degree Forgery.
- Report of a fight between several juveniles. Officers completed an investigation which led to the arrest of three juveniles for crimes including Assault III, Robbery III, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Menacing. All three juveniles were lodged at the Yamhill County Youth Detention Center.
- An officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with no front plate. It was learned that the driver was on parole and had a curfew which he was violating. The driver’s parole officer issued a detainer warrant and the driver was taken into custody.
- Officers responded to an Assault call at Riverview Park where it was reported that a man had been assaulted by two juveniles. While investigating the incident, it was discovered that it was actually the adult who had assaulted one of the juveniles by grabbing him and throwing him to the ground. The man was arrested for Assault 4 and Disorderly Conduct.
