During the first week of our annual Leaf Pickup Program, Public Works crews collected an impressive 374 cubic yards of leaves. That includes 16.5 dump truck loads of compacted, wet leaves in 13-yard trucks and 20 street sweeper loads that are 8 yards each.

As crews continue their rounds, we’re encouraging residents to use their yard debris bins for as many leaves as possible before moving the remainder into the street. This helps prevent leaves from blowing away or washing into storm drains, which can cause clogs and localized flooding during fall rains.

To help crews work efficiently and keep stormwater flowing, leave a one-foot strip between the curb and your leaf pile so rainwater can reach the storm drains. If you park on the street, leave at least a five-foot gap between your vehicle and the start of the pile so sweepers can safely collect the leaves.
