This week, contractors will prepare city water meter boxes for the next phase of the city’s water meter replacement project. Crews will use vacuum excavation to clear space inside each meter box before the upcoming installations, scheduled to begin on April 23, 2025. This phase will focus on replacing all remaining 3/4-inch meters located between 7th Street and the Willamette River, excluding Main Street and Monmouth Street.

Water meters have an optimal life span of approximately 20 years, and many of the city’s current meters have reached the end of that cycle. Last year, to ensure continued accuracy and efficiency, the city launched a five-year project to replace all 3/4-inch meters serving residential and commercial properties. Once this phase is complete, larger meters serving residential, commercial, and industrial buildings will be replaced.

We appreciate your awareness as contractors work in neighborhoods throughout the city. Thank you for your patience as we continue investing in essential infrastructure.
