Our Love Local series is all about celebrating the people, places, and moments that make Independence special. Through heartfelt stories and community reflections, we’re showcasing the many reasons why people love calling Indy home.

As part of this series, we met our pal Henry, the goodest boy, who shared what makes his tail wag in Indy.

(Bark, bark, bark!)

Translation: “I love the river, the walking paths, and how everything’s so close!”

And Henry isn’t alone in his love for Independence. As we ventured through the city, we heard from longtime residents and new faces alike, all sharing what makes Indy feel like home.

One resident reflected on the city’s growth over the years:

“I see so much activity going on here. I remember when this (Riverview Park) was just a hill. The walkability is definitely a nice thing for sure.”

For others, it’s the parks and peaceful atmosphere that keep them loving Indy every day:

“Nos encantan los parques de aquí. Nos encanta caminar desde nuestra casa para disfrutar del río y la paz.”

Translation: “We love the parks here. We love walking from our house to enjoy the river and peace.”

At the Independence Public Library, we heard from parents who appreciate the town’s family-friendly vibe:

“I love all the things to do with the kids and family. There’s lots of activities and places to go and hang out, and I enjoy being able to take my kids out and do stuff.”

Another longtime resident shared how Independence has been the perfect place to raise a family:

“We raised our kids in Independence, and it’s an amazing place. People here are so active—this is easily one of the most playful and vibrant cities we’ve ever lived in.”

As we continued our Love Local journey, we hit the streets on a sunny day, decked out in seasonally perfect heart-shaped glasses, and asked even more locals what makes Independence special to them. Here’s what they had to say:

“I love how small the town is. It’s really quiet and slow-paced, which just adds to how great it is.”

“I love Riverview Park—we’re always there! The peaceful pace of the town is something I really appreciate, too.”

“I love how tight-knit and friendly the community is. The small shops on Main Street are always fun to walk through, and everyone you meet is so kind. Plus, it’s just such a beautiful and scenic place to be!”

From the river to the parks, from quiet streets to vibrant community events, there’s no shortage of reasons to love Independence.
