Mt. Fir Park is located off of F Street between 7th and 9th Street. The 7 acre park borders the South Fork of Ash Creek and has an additional entrance from G Street. Originally, the land was part of the Mt. Fir Lumber Mill, but the land was donated to the city in the early 90's when the mill downsized its operations.
Inspiration Gardens Project in Mt. Fir Park
Inspiration Gardens is a project being done by The Master Gardeners. The Inspiration Garden is a multi-year project on up to 4 acres of the 7.3 acre Mountain Fir Park.
Current gardens under development include; a children’s garden, a bee and butterfly garden, a medicinal plant garden, a rock garden, an herb wheel, vegetable beds, fruit trees and berries, an Asian/bamboo garden and new this year, “The Joy of Roses Garden,” and a prairie/wildflower garden.
In 2012, the Master Gardener program had a presence in 29 of Oregon's 36 counties and 4,160 active Master Gardener volunteers. After completing the 9-12 week training period, the volunteers are much more aware of Oregon State University, its Extension Service, the College of Agricultural Sciences, and how they all tie together to provide extended education to the citizens of Oregon. http://extension.oregonstate.edu/polk/polk-county-fairgrounds
