The City of Independence provides water and sewer service inside City Limits. To connect your home to one or both services, please fill out the Application for Utility Service and bring it to City Hall. A list of other utility (internet, phone, power, etc.) providers can be found here.
Payment for the water and sewer service is due on the 15th of every month. The first missed payment will result in late fees and a door hanger notifying the residents that they are behind in payments, and if a payment is not received before the shutoff date the water will be turned off and only be turned back on with a reconnection fee. Customers can also avoid shutoffs by contacting the billing department and asking about a Utility Service Agreement. The payment arrangement contains policies which should be reviewed closely prior to signing.
NOTE: 2025 Public Safety Fee will start at $20 per month for the first six months, decrease to $17 per month in July 2025, and further reduce to $10 per month by July 2026. Starting in December 2026, the fee will be adjusted annually to reflect inflation as measured by the CPI-West Region.
