The City of Independence Recorder coordinates and administers the City’s municipal election activities, including receiving filings from candidates for the positions of mayor and councilors.

The Mayor is elected for a two-year term, while the City Councilors are elected for a four-year term. The Mayor and half the Council positions are up for election every two years.

The recorder prepares election schedules, files measures for the ballot, and certifies the final election results to ensure compliance with all city, state, and federal election laws and policies and to ensure that the city elections are conducted in a fair and impartial manner.
