The city of Independence is accepting candidate filings for the November 3, 2026, General Election. The filing period opened June 3 and closes at 5:00 p.m. on August 25, 2026.
Mayor and City Council positions are non-partisan, elected at large, volunteer, non-paid roles. Terms begin January 1, 2027. Candidates must be registered voters in Independence and have lived within the city limits for at least 12 consecutive months before the election.
