Have you been curious about what our officers have been up to all month? The Independence Police Department is sharing a sample of the calls for service each month to inform and educate community members on the work we do.

In August 2025, officers engaged in 821 activities, including 25 Arrests (Adults and Juveniles), 11 check welfares, 16 domestic disturbances, 6 hit-and-run crashes, 11 emotional health calls, 57 Suspicious Activity / Person / Vehicle.

AUGUST 2025

  • During a routine nightly park check, an officer contacted individuals violating park hours. One person was found to have a warrant out of Polk County. While conducting a search, officers located a baggie of suspected drugs that tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine. The individual was transported to the Polk County Jail.
  • An aviation association reported that a member entered their building and poured an unknown brown liquid on the carpet in the meeting room. The bottle was recovered from a trash container, and video footage captured the incident. When confronted, the person did not confirm what the liquid was but suggested it might contain urine. The individual was cited and released.
  • A caller reported an unknown man on her property who stole a beer from her outdoor refrigerator and put on clothing belonging to her husband. Officers found the man still in the backyard with no explanation. He was detained and transported to the Polk County Jail.
  • Officers responding to a domestic disturbance found that one person had thrown items and menaced their ex-partner with a large kitchen knife. The victim showed officers a video of the incident and had visible scrapes. The suspect was detained by the Marion County Sheriffโ€™s Office and transported to the Polk County Jail.
  • Officers responding to another domestic disturbance learned that one individual had struck a family member in the face during an argument over money and food. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant out of Marion County and was transported to the Polk County Jail.
  • On May 16, an individual menaced a 17-year-old who was pushing a stalled vehicle down the street by displaying a firearm. Officers developed probable cause for Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Weapon, and requested a warrant after being unable to locate the suspect. On August 29, an off-duty officer spotted the suspect in a parking lot, leading to a multi-agency foot pursuit along the railroad tracks. The individual was eventually detained and taken into custody. The suspect was taken to the hospital, medically cleared, and booked into the Polk County Jail.
