Have you been curious about what our officers have been up to all month? The Independence Police Department is sharing a sample of the calls for service each month to inform and educate community members on the work we do.
In September 2025, officers engaged in 796 activities, including 14 Arrests (Adults and Juveniles), 15 check welfares, 13 domestic disturbances, 3 hit-and-run crashes, 10 emotional health calls, and 51 Suspicious Activity / Person / Vehicle calls.
SEPTEMBER 2025
- Officers responded to a domestic disturbance that began when one person learned another had been passed out rather than supervising their minor child. The second person responded by kicking, punching, and pushing the first, and was taken to the Polk County Jail.ย
- During a traffic patrol, an officer ran a license plate that returned to an out-of-compliance sex offender.ย After further investigation to confirm the status, the driver came to the station and was arrested for failing to comply with registration requirements.
- An officer stopped a speeding vehicle and found the driverโs license was suspended. The driver also had an outstanding warrant and was found with a suspected bag of methamphetamine. The individual was taken to jail.
- Multiple 911 calls reported a reckless driver speeding and swerving into oncoming lanes. Officers located the vehicle and found the driver highly agitated and with an active warrant. The driver was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail.
- Officers responded to a report of a classic muscle car doing donuts in a gravel parking lot and hitting a portable toilet, which was pushed into the roadway and damaged. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle. The incident was documented as criminal mischief.
- Officers responded to a domestic incident where an individual, after drinking, pushed a family member and broke their phone during a struggle. The person was arrested and taken to jail with a blood alcohol content of .15%.
- A traffic stop revealed a vehicle with mismatched license plates. The driver was suspended and uninsured, and left the scene on foot as the vehicle was being towed. A firearm was later found in the glovebox. The driver, a convicted felon, was arrested for weapons violations.
- After a thorough investigation, officers located and arrested an individual who had been indicted on a firearms-related incident. Search warrants were executed, and the involved firearms were seized.ย
