Have you been curious about what our officers have been up to all month? The Independence Police Department is sharing a sample of the calls for service each month to inform and educate community members on the work we do.

In June 2026, officers engaged in 896 activities. These included 20 arrests (adults and juveniles), 12 welfare checks, 16 domestic disturbances, 12 hit-and-run crashes, 14 emotional health calls, and 65 suspicious activity/person/vehicle calls. The activities listed above represent just a portion of the calls to which officers respond. Other incidents may include resident contact calls, tows, attempts to locate, assistance to other agencies, crashes, and other service requests.

JUNE 2026

  • An employee at a local business kept an envelope containing donated gift cards that had been left behind by a customer and later used the cards to make nearly $400 in purchases. The individual was arrested for theft and transported to the Polk County Jail.
  • Officers responded to a dispute between two drivers following a near collision in a parking lot. One driver exited their vehicle while holding a knife and allegedly threatened others at the scene. The suspect was arrested for menacing and unlawful use or display of a weapon.
  • Officers responded to an individual experiencing an emotional health crisis who expressed fears of being followed and told dispatch they had a firearm and might use it if they felt threatened. Officers safely convinced the individual to stop driving, took them into protective custody, and secured the firearm without incident.
  • Officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving reports of a rifle and children inside the home. During the incident, one person threatened self-harm with the firearm but complied with officers’ commands. The individual was arrested for physical harassment and transported to the Polk County Jail.
  • An individual was arrested for improper use of the 911 system after repeatedly calling both emergency and non-emergency lines over 30 times regarding an ongoing landlord dispute.
  • Officers investigated a delayed report of domestic violence involving an incident that occurred while the victim was driving with children in the vehicle. The suspect was arrested for felony-level strangulation and transported to the Polk County Jail.
