Have you been curious about what our officers have been up to all month? The Independence Police Department is sharing a sample of the calls for service each month to inform and educate community members on the work we do.

 

In January 2025, officers engaged in 692 activities, including 24 Arrests (Adults and Juvenile), 9 check welfares, 9 domestic disturbances, 7 hit-and-run crashes, 21 emotional health calls, and 63 Suspicious Activity / Person / Vehicle calls.

JANUARY 2025

  • Officers responded to a burglary at Jade Terrace. The suspect stole approximately $50 in cash and change. Officers are gathering evidence and reviewing potential leads to identify the suspect.

 

  • Officers responded to a burglary in progress on 7th St., where a man was seen walking away and looking into other homes. He was later found pressing his face against the front door of another house on 7th Street. Matching the caller’s description, the suspect was challenged but refused to comply despite multiple warnings. He was detained and taken into custody for first-degree trespass (initial house) and second-degree trespass (house of contact). He was lodged at Polk County Jail.

 

  • Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance. The suspect is alleged to have intentionally splashed mouthwash into the eyes of the victim. The suspect, who had multiple weapons, was transported to Polk County Jail. (See photos)

 

  • An officer recognized an individual with an active warrant from Florence Municipal Court. A search revealed drug paraphernalia and a substance suspected to be fentanyl.

 

  • Officers responded to a domestic disturbance where family members got into a struggle. During the altercation, one individual wrestled with the victim as he attempted to call 911 for help. The victim sustained cuts and minor injuries. The suspect was transported to Polk County Jail.
