Last week saw the official swearing-in of our newest Officer, Eric Alcaraz. Eric graduated from Western Oregon University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a minor in Human Biology. While at WOU, he was part of the track and cross-country teams. After graduation, Eric decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. He worked as a security guard at the Nike World Headquarters for two years, then at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office as an institution sheriff’s deputy for about three years.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Eric enjoys exercise (lifting and running), outdoor activities (fishing and hiking), and spending time with friends and family.

During the ceremony, the police officer code of ethics and “What an Officer Is” were read. Part of the latter read, “As a police officer, you are expected to be compassionate and gentle, full of wisdom and patience, and possess limitless knowledge, perfect discernment, demonstrate incredible physical skills, and an unending amount of energy and endurance, and have the ability to ask all the right questions while knowing all of the answers. This is a career where you possess great responsibility and authority—all while making a real difference in the lives of others.”

Join us in welcoming Officer Alcaraz to the team!
