Hello community –

As we bring our proposed budget to the City Council for a vote next week, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work and collaboration it’s taken to get us here. This year’s budget process has not been easy. I saw firsthand how committed our staff, budget committee, and community members were to working through tough decisions with care, transparency, and dedication. Thank you to everyone who participated, asked questions, and stayed engaged.

And just like that, with the turn of the calendar page it feels like summer is here! As the school year winds down and the sun makes a more regular appearance, it’s time to shift our focus to celebrating what makes Independence such a vibrant place to live.

Graduation season is upon us, and I want to send heartfelt congratulations to all our graduates and their families. Whether you’re finishing high school, college, or another big milestone—your accomplishments matter, and your community is proud of you.

Summer in Independence means music in the park, movie nights under the stars, neighborhood festivals, and of course—Independence Days! We know how to celebrate the 4th of July like no one else and are excited to offer another great lineup of activities. From the parade and fireworks to family-friendly activities, it’s a time to come together, reflect on what unites us, and enjoy the best of small-town summer.

So, let’s take a collective breath, soak up some sunshine, and enjoy this season of connection and celebration. I hope to see you at one of our many summer events!

In service to our community,
Mayor Kate
