As the hot weather continues, many people seek to cool off in the Willamette River. We urge everyone to take precautions when enjoying water activities. Riverview Park offers two lifejacket loaner stations: one near the parking lot and another by the north gravel bar. Additionally, life jackets are available at the Independence boat ramp near the Sports Park. 
Unfortunately, life jackets from these stations are often not returned, necessitating frequent replacements. To help maintain this life jacket loaner program, you can support it by donating money or new life jackets to the city of Independence. Monetary donations are accepted at the Independence Civic Center during regular business hours and are used directly to purchase additional life jackets. Each donation is considered a charitable contribution and donors will receive a receipt. Please note that the city does not accept used life jackets.
