For the past several months, the City of Independence has assessed our community’s current and future housing needs. So far, this analysis has determined that Independence:

– Has become increasingly unaffordable for certain members of our community and

– Will need more housing in a variety of different types to ensure that affordable options remain available.

The analysis has also found that the city currently has a broad mix of housing types (single-family homes, accessory dwelling units, duplexes, and multifamily housing) but limited additional land to accommodate denser housing options like townhomes or multifamily housing. Therefore, the City of Independence is curious how you think the city should best plan for future housing and what types you consider well suited for different portions of the community.
