Two Closed Parks to Reopen Through Community Support

Riverview Park and Independence Landing will reopen to the public on August 27, 2026, and remain open through December 31, 2026, following a $30,000 grant from the Friends of the Community Parks nonprofit to support park operations.

The city is grateful for this community support and understands the impact the recent park closures have had on residents and the broader community.

“The living room of our community will reopen through the end of the year, and it will give us the breathing room we need to try and find our next steps,” said City Manager Kenna West.

This support was not anticipated as part of the city’s park closure plan. Friends of the Community Parks stepped forward to help preserve access to Riverview Park and Independence Landing during this difficult financial period.

At the same time, this support does not resolve the city’s broader financial situation. Other park closures remain in place because the city does not currently have sufficient funding to operate the parks system.

The city is thankful for the opportunity to keep Riverview Park and Independence Landing open through the end of 2026 while continuing to address the larger challenge of finding sustainable funding for our parks system.
