APRIL 2024
In April, officers engaged in 726 activities, including 32 Arrests (Adults and Juvenile), 18 check welfares, 17 domestic disturbances, 5 hit-and-run Crashes, 9 emotional health calls, and 49 Suspicious Activity / Person / Vehicle calls.
• Officers responded to a hit-and-run call near Picture St. and Gun Club Rd. While talking with the witness, the suspect vehicle drove up to the scene. After interviewing the driver of the vehicle, field sobriety tests were performed, resulting in the driver being arrested for DUII and Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver. He blew a .26% BAC.
• Officers responded to a vehicle that had crashed into a parked blue Ford pickup truck, totaling it. The driver was later arrested for DUII with a BAC of .16%.
• A man reported that he was walking across an intersection and noticed an older gray Jeep had slowed down. He said he saw a “black mass” and shortly after felt something hit him, which turned out to be a shot from a BB gun.
• A man reported that his mailbox was struck by a car, leaving fragments of a side view mirror at the scene. Earlier that day, an off-duty officer found a driver asleep in their car with the turn signal on at a stop sign. After waking up, the driver admitted to drinking and driving and consented to a field sobriety test. He blew a .10% BAC and was arrested for DUII. Further investigation proved the side view mirror left at the hit-and-run scene matched up with his car (see photo). He was also cited for Failure to Perform Duties of a Driver.
• Officers responded to a domestic disturbance of a man locked in a room with a woman blocking his exit with a knife. The woman was arrested for Coercion, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing, Assault 4, Criminal Mischief 2, and Harassment.
• Officers were dispatched to a fight call outside of the Independence Public Library. During the investigation, it was discovered that one man was making derogatory comments about another man’s girlfriend. When the victim approached the man about his comments, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim. The man was arrested for Assault 4 and Disorderly Conduct.
